Vijayawada: The DISCOMs in Andhra Pradesh are successful in reducing per unit cost of power by Rs 0.16 than the approved cost with timely intervention resulting in substantial savings.

In his Republic Day address at Vidyut Soudh here, Energy Secretary Nagulapalli Srikant said the DISCOMs have undertaken low cost advantage of market purchases by substituting costly thermal power. According to him, as against the approved power purchase cost of Rs 31,346 crore, the DISCOMs have spent only Rs 26,421 crore in FY21 thus achieving total savings of Rs.4,925 crore.

Out of this, AP Electricity Regulatory Commission (APERC) has already taken into account Rs 3,373 crore and has trued down for FY 2020-21 in the Retail Supply Tariff Order for current financial year of FY 2021-22.

An amount of Rs.1552 crore is still to be reckoned down as true down pertaining to the financial year. This shows the commitment of the government in reducing the power purchase cost and passing on the benefit to the end-consumers, he stated.

Srikant said the implementation of Navratnalu in the power sector is the top priority of the government.
